Dao - Alvaro Castro

Álvaro Castro, owner and vigneron of Quinta de Saes and Quinta da Pellada (dating from 1570), is widely recognized as the leading producer in the Dão region. Álvaro Castro inherited his family farm in 1980, where his family has been making wine for centuries. In the political regime of the not so distant past, every farmer in this region had to sell his grapes to cooperative companies

In the early 80's, Álvaro started his initiative to restore the long family vineyard tradition. In 2000, after working with Dirk Niepoort and José Neiva Correia in Bordeaux and Portugal, Maria Castro began to work with her father to ensure the family tradition.

With three vineyards - Quinta da Pellada, Quinta da Saes and Outeiro, Álvaro leads the wine-growing movement of Dao. Álvaro Castro has used the characteristics of the Dão to produce wines with a high degree of freshness and finesse, yet retaining their complexity and depth. A long family legacy of wine growing, generations of grape cultivation, and its drive to better understand its terroir, cumulate in incredibly expressive and pure wines that are never conventional but reflect constant evolution ... a feature that has the attention of the world of wine caught

Quinta da Pellada: The vines are between 3 and 65 years old. They are at an average height of 550 meters and cover a total area of 60 hectares
