Clear and bright coppery brown colour with golden nuances and greenish reflections.  On the nose it´s very characteristic, exuberant and very ethereal, full of balsamic notes, spices and dry fruits. On the palate it´s very powerful, fresh and concentrated with a long aftertaste and retronasal full of balsamic notes, exotic woods and old rum.

In the 17th century Verdelho was considered the most representative variety in Madeira Island and some even say that may be  originated from the island. Verdelho produces a wine must with moderated sugar levels, noticeable acidity and produces a mediumdry style of Madeira wine. Verdelho 1976, has the category of a Frasqueira. The Ageing – “Canteiro” process.
The maturation occurred in the cellar of Blandy´s Wine Lodge, located Funchal city center. This balance, results from the winemaker´s  decisions through the maturation process in which the wine, who ages in American oak casks in the warm attic floors of the lodge, is transferred to the lower cooler north facing floors of the lodge.

Food-pairing
It is an excellent aperitif, but is also very tasty with soups, game birds (duck for example) and foie gras

Grapes: 100% Verdelho
Also known as Gouveio in the rest of Portugal. Is the most commonly planted white variety. The style has a slight sweetness and is off-dry / medium dry. Planted at altitudes of 400-600, especially in the North, and ripens late. The grape is the main ingredient for Rainwater.

Store & Serve
Always keep a Madeira wine upright. The acids of Madeira are so strong that they attack the cork if the bottle is stored lying down
To serve: 18 °C. Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time.

Madeira is a wine that has matured in an oxidative environment for several years, before bottling in a reductive environment. It is therefore useful to open the bottles a few hours in advance. The bottles can then be stored almost indefinitely, as the air no longer affects Madeira wines. In fact, the wine tastes better after months - if there is still left - than when opening the bottle.
